Assassin's Creed is a historical fiction open world stealth video game developed by Ubisoft Montreal and published by Ubisoft. It was released in November 2007 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and in December 2007 for Microsoft Windows. In this game, players control a bartender named Desmond Miles who is a descendant of several lines of prominent Assassins; as such, he has access to the Assassin's knowledge from previous centuries. The story takes place in 2012 (the present day), and sees protagonist Desmond Miles kidnapped by an organization which identifies itself as the "Brotherhood". Desmond is subjected to procedures that cause significant memory loss, including a "blank" period in his life. He is taken to the Abstergo Entertainment facility in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, where he is forced to participate in a virtual reality simulation in which he relives the life of 17th Century Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze. Ezio was created with the purpose of reliving the lives of several prominent Assassins from history so that they can offer their wisdom and insight on how to proceed in modern times. The main element of gameplay is stealth. Players use a variety of weapons including a short blade or a projectile weapon, as well as using hand-to-hand combat during some boss battles. A new addition to this series is the "free-running" ability, which is used to scale buildings and move from rooftop to rooftop. Players can now swim as well as climb, enabling them to access new areas. In each location the player has an Assassin's Tombs sidequest that unlocks as they progress through the main story. Each tomb requires the player to solve puzzles, typically with the help of Desmond's ancestors via a device called an Animus. As the game progresses, the player unlocks more of Desmond's lost memories, and eventually sees the events currently unfolding in his life as he has them. Assassin's Creed was first released on Microsoft Windows on November 13, 2007. It was ported to the PlayStation 3 platform on November 20, 2008. The game has also been released on Xbox 360 and Mac OS X platforms. A sequel to Assassin's Creed, titled Assassin's Creed II , was announced by Ubisoft in March 2009; it features Ezio Auditore da Firenze as the protagonist rather than Desmond Miles. The game was released on Xbox 360 on October 15, 2009, and on PlayStation 3 and PC on October 29, 2009. On April 25, 2010 Ubisoft announced that they were developing an episodic sequel titled Assassin's Creed: Revelations. A teaser trailer for the game was released during Ubisoft's press conference at E3 2010. It was released for the PlayStation 3, Wii and Microsoft Windows on December 5, 2010 (Xbox 360 version). The Wii version of this game is set in Japan; unlike the first two games developed by Ubisoft Montreal for consoles it is developed by Ubisoft Annecy. The Nintendo DS version of the game is not part of this trilogy of games but is rather a spin-off called Assassin's Creed: Lineage . eccc085e13
